What is a SIP Trunk?

A SIP trunk is a virtual phone line that uses your internet connection to make and receive voice calls. It connects your on-site PBX system to the public telephone network, replacing traditional ISDN or analogue lines.

What do I need to use SIP Trunks?

You’ll need a compatible IP PBX system, a reliable internet connection, and SIP trunk service from OLYS Telecom.

Can I Scale my SIP Trunks as my Business Grows?

Yes — SIP trunks are highly flexible. You can easily add or remove channels based on your call volumes and business requirements.

Does OLYS SIP Trunking support TLS encryption?

Yes. OLYS Telecom SIP trunks support TLS (Transport Layer Security) to encrypt and secure your SIP signalling traffic for enhanced protection against interception and fraud.

Is FAX Supported Over SIP Trunks?

Yes. We support FAX over SIP using the T.38 protocol, designed to ensure reliable fax transmission over IP networks.

Does OLYS SIP Trunking support numeric transformations?

Yes. Our service allows numeric transformations so you can manipulate dialed numbers as needed for compatibility with your PBX or routing requirements.

Can I Keep My Existing Phone Number?

Yes, you can keep your existing home phone number. There is a small porting fee of £30 + VAT, although most of our packages include free porting.

How Long Does Number Transfer Take?

Number transfers typically take 5 to 10 days, and there is no disruption to your service during the process.

Do I Need to Cancel My Existing Landline Service?

No, please do not cancel your current landline service. Keep it active until your number is fully transferred. Once your number is ported over to OLYS Telecom, your original landline service will automatically be deactivated.

Can I Block Unwanted Calls?

No — call blocking must be managed at the PBX level. OLYS Telecom does not provide native call-blocking features on the SIP trunk itself.

Can I Call Emergency Services (999 / 111) Using VoIP?

Yes, our VoIP service fully supports calls to emergency services (999 and 111).


To enable this feature, there is a small fee of £2/month, which can be added to your plan as an optional add-on. This ensures your location is registered correctly for emergency response and that your calls are routed with priority.

Do I Have to Commit to a Contract?

No, OLYS Telecom does not bind you to any fixed-term contracts for our VoIP services—all service plans are offered on a flexible monthly basis with no long-term commitment required.

However, if you choose to purchase a VoIP handset on a monthly payment plan, there may be a separate contract related to the hardware cost only. This ensures that the cost of the device is covered over the agreed period. It does not affect your service plan, which remains on a rolling monthly basis.

Is There a Web Portal to Check Missed Calls?

Yes! Our fully featured online portal allows you to view missed calls, call history, and manage many other features.
